HERE IN THE MID-SOUTH Not only was M.A. Lightman, Sr., founder of the Malco Theaters but also of the Variety Club of Memphis Tent 20 in 1938. Mother’s Milk Bank became the first charity and was credited with saving the lives of many babies whose mothers were unable to supply them with proper nourishment. An International Award was presented to Tent 20 in Memphis for this project. Today the Malco Theaters carries on the legacy of Mr. Lightman through Variety as a major sponsor of the Gold Heart program selling the pin in all of their mid-south theaters which benefits not just one but many children’s charities. What Variety is all about. |
